Pastor Andrew talks about Nineveh's repentance and what that teaches us about God's character. A little repentance goes a long way.

Group discussion questions are below.
Looking at the Word:
Read Jonah 3:1-2.
  • How was this word from the Lord similar to the word Jonah received in 1:2? How is it different?
Read Jonah 2:3-4.
  • What was Jonah's message to Nineveh?
  • What does the fact that there is 40 days warning imply?
  • (Read Jeremiah 18:7-8 for additional background)
  • Read Genesis 19:24-25. What other notable places were “overthrown” by God when they did not repent?
Read Jonah 3:5.
  • Who did the people believe? What did they do as a result? What did this action signify in their culture? (Read 2 Samuel 3:31 for additional background)
  • What might a current-day parallel to this be?
Read Jonah 3:6-9.
  • Who was the one who lead in repentance?
  • What specific things were the people told to give up?
  • What was the expressed hope that might happen as a result?
  • What might like this look like in current-day, if the same thing was to happen?
Read Jonah 3:10.
  • What did God do when he saw?
  • What does this tell us about God's character?

Looking at our Lives:
  • Is biblical repentance, like we see in Jonah's time, a part of our time too? Why or why not?
  • What is the most sincere version of repentance you have ever personally witnessed?
  • When have you repented of something? What happened?
  • Read 2 Chronicles 7:14. What things might we corporately need to repent of, as a city, state or nation? If we did repent, what might our expression of repentance look like?
