I Give Up: Isolation (Sermon)

 Life lessons from the wilderness.

I Give Up: Isolation

Where Is It Written:

Read 1 Kings 18:16 - 19:1-19.

What brave "contest" has Elijah just participated in? (18:16-40)

What happened in the contest?

What do you think Elijah thought should happen in the hearts of Isreal's leaders as a result?

What actually happened?

Why did Elijah flee to Horeb? (19:3)

How is Elijah feeling at this moment? (19:4)

How does God meet him in this emotional place?

How does God provide for his physical and emotional needs?

How many people have stayed faithful - that Elijah couldn't see?

Who does God tell Elijah will succeed him?

How Goes Your Walk:

How do you relate to Elijah’s feelings of isolation?

Who were the people "with you" that couldn’t see when you have felt isolated?

How has God met you in places of solitude?

I Give Up: Being Stuck Past Habits (Sermon)

Life lessons from the wilderness.

I Give Up: Being Stuck in Past Habits

Where Is It Written:

Read Exodus 16:1-8.

How long had the Israelites been in the wilderness?

What had they left behind in Egypt?

What immediate crisis were they facing?

How did the crisis cause them to remember their past?

How did God respond to their need?

What new pattern was God trying to build in them?

How Goes Your Walk:

How have you experienced “wilderness” this past year?

What new habit has God been building in you?

Where in your life do you want to more Fully Rely On God?

Revelation - By The Books (Chapter 20) (Sermon)

    Certain hope for uncertain times.

Where is it written?

Read Daniel 7:10-12, Matthew 5:31-46, John 5:24, Romans 14:10, 2 Corinthians 5:1-10, 2 Timothy 4:1-8, James 1:12, 1 Peter 1:17, Revelation 3:5; 11:18.

* What do these passages tell us about Jesus judging the earth?

Read Daniel 7:10; 12:1, Luke 10:20, Revelation 3:5; 13:8; 17:8.

* What do these passages tell us about the "book of life."

Read Revelation 20:11-15.

Who is there? What books are opened?

What is the difference between the other books and the book of life?

How does someone get into the book of life?

How Goes Your Walk?

What ideas or images of judgment day influenced you growing up?

How does knowing that you will one day stand before God's throne of judgment affect how you live today?

What does it mean to you to have your name in Jesus' "book of life?"
