Delighting In The Word

Delighting In The Word

Where is it written?
Read Psalm 119:33-40
For every verse, what is the request and what is the benefit? (Make a chart.)
How would you describe the Psalmist’s feelings about God’s Word?

Deep Study - Delight
Read 2 Samuel 22:20, Psalm 37:4 &; 23; Psalm 111:2; Psalm 119: 16, 24, 35, 47, 70, 74, 77, & 143; Proverbs 3:13; Proverbs 23:26; 1 Corinthians 13:6 & John 3:19 (love).

What do these passages teach us about the role of delight in our lives? How are we shaped by our delights?

How goes your walk?
What does our culture delight in most?
How is this different than what God tells us to delight in?
How would you describe your feelings about the Bible right now? How do you want to feel about the Bible?
What is your greatest delight?
What do you want to have as your greatest delight?

Bible Reading Ideas:
Make it your goal to spend a length of time in the Bible rather than the quantity of reading. I.e. 10 minutes rather that one chapter. Set a timer if helpful.
Get to know a few key passages well. Marinate in them. Memorize sections of scripture.
Start in the Gospels. (Matthew, Mark, Luke or John)

Grace: Nothing to Lose (Nick Edmonds)

Grace: Nothing to Lose
Pastor Nick Edmonds

Where is it written?
Read Ephesians 3:7-8
What word does Paul use to describe himself?
What is he a servant of? How?
How did Paul experience God’s work in his life?

Deep Study - Paul’s Past
Read Acts 9:1-31
What was Paul doing before Jesus met him?
What happened when Jesus met him?
Who went to talk to him? Why was he reluctant to go?
What happened right after Paul’s encounter?
Were the disciples eager to greet Paul?
What did they do to Paul?

How is your story faith similar to Paul’s? How is it different?

How goes your walk?
How does knowing God’s authority change how you live?
How do you go from letting your past mistakes define you to being something you now just remember?
How does remembering “where you came from” give you extra boldness to share your faith?

Challenge:
Pray for an opportunity this week to share your story of what God’s grace saved you from.

Grace: Armed for Battle

Grace: Armed For Battle
Pastor Andrew Thompson

Where is it written?
Read Ephesians 6:10-20
Whose power are we to rely on? (vs. 10)
Who is our true enemy? (vs. 11-12)
Is a struggle against evil an optional part or an integral part of Christan life? Why is it important that we know about spiritual warfare?
What do the belt, the breastplate, the shoes, the shield, the helmet each represent? How does each help us stand our ground against evil? (Make a list.)
What does the sword represent? How does it help us advance against evil?
What does the full armor of God equip us to do? (vs. 18-20)
Who are we to pray for? What are we to pray for?

Deep Study - SpiritualWarfare
Read John 8;44, John 10:10, John 16:33, Romans 8:37-39, 1 Corinthians 10:13, 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, 2 Corinthians 11:14, Colossians 1:13-14, 2 Thessalonians 3:3, James 4:7, and 1 Peter 5:8-9.

The word “Satan” means “adversary.” What do these passages teach us about the spiritual battles that surround us, and how our enemy can be defeated?

How might you summarize spiritual warfare for a young Christian who is just learning about it?

How goes your walk?
Where are you feeling the spiritual struggle in your life?
How does knowing the reality of spiritual warfare affect how you pray and what you pray for?
How are you putting on the full armor of God daily?
How might your life be different if you were most consistently applying the full armor of God in your life?

Challenge:
Take 5 minutes every day this week to pray through the armor of God, asking God to 1) ground you in His truth, 2) cover you in His righteousness, 3) ready you to share His message, 4) guard you against the devil’s accusations, 5) remind you of your salvation in Him. Then apply what you know of God’s Word to pray boldly for God’s will to be done in this world.
