Romancing Gomer - Purchased

The Old Testament story of Hosea helps us better understand how far God's love reaches. He loves you more than you could ever imagine.

Digging Deeper Into Hosea:
Icebreaker: Do you have a "prized possession?" What makes this item so valuable to you? How did you acquire it?

Where is it Written?
Read Hosea 3.
What is the situation? What happened?
What are Gomer's (Hosea's wife) actions compared to?
What does Hosea ask of his wife after he has purchased her freedom?

Read 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, 1 Peter 1:18-19 & Revelation 5:9
What do these verses tell us about how Jesus purchased us?
What did it cost Jesus?
What did it accomplish for us?

How Goes Your Walk?
How do people today "cheat" on God?
In what ways do you "cheat" God?
How does knowing that your freedom from sin and has been purchased by Jesus change how you live? (Or how might it change how you live?)
How does it affect your sense of self-worth?

Romancing Gomer - Nasty Names

What the Old Testament book of Hosea shows us about the character and grace of God.

Digging Deeper Into Hosea:

Icebreaker: What was a name you were called growing up? How did it affect you?

Where is it Written?
Read Hosea 1.
Why was God so angry with the nation of Isreal?
What names are Hosea told to give his children?
What does each name mean? What point is God trying to make with each?
What effect do you imagine those names had on these children growing up?

Re-read Hosea 1:10 - 2:1
What does God do with each of the children's names?

Read Ephesians 1:3-8
What benefits do we receive from being "in Christ?" (Make a list)
How does being in Christ change our identity?

How Goes Your Walk?
How has your relationship with Jesus changed your sense of self-identity?
Would you say that you are "in Christ?" Why or why not?
How does (or how might) knowing that you are in Christ change you? In emotions? In actions?

Romancing Gomer - Hosea's Covenant Promise

What the Old Testament book of Hosea shows us about the character and grace of God.

Pastor of Worship and Connection Groups Chris Garrow preaching.

Discussion Questions:
What does the name Hosea mean?
Describe the type of covenant made in Hosea 2:19-20?
If God is Holy how can he make such a covenant with a prostitute?
How are you and Gomer similar?
How can God make that same covenant with you?
