The First 5 - Finding Jesus in the Old Testament

As we challenge one another to read the first five books of the Bible together over the next 6 weeks, remember this:

Jesus is the key to the Bible.

Three Ways to look for Jesus in the Old Testament:

  1. Promises of Jesus’ coming.
  2. Examples of why Jesus is needed.
  3. Early images of Jesus.

When You Read the Bible:

  • Ask God for help.
  • Look for Jesus.
  • Listen for the Spirit.
  • Discuss together.

We Are Family: Finding U in Us

Every family has values, attributes, and customs that shape how it lives and what it does. A church family is no different. This two-week series looks at the core values and characteristics that have shaped Columbia Grove and our mission.

How Goes Your Walk?
Jesus called people from a wide variety of places of life to follow him. Ranging from Matthew the Tax Collector (Matthew 9:9) to Paul the Pharisee (Acts 9) to Mary Magdalene (Luke 8:2), who had demons cast out of her. All began in different places of life. All had their lives changed by Jesus as they became aware of the full implications of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection and it increasingly shaped their worship, worldview and lifestyle.

As we also look to follow Jesus as a community of faith, we seek to encourage and support one another as we each follow His lead and deepen our lives of discipleship through worship, connection and service. We offer ourselves to Jesus for Him to transform us through the renewing of our minds. (Romans 12:1-2) We stay connected with Him through His Word that our lives would be fruitful. (John 15:5-7) We look for the Fruit of the Spirit to develop in our lives. (Galatians 5:22-23) We put to death old ways of living as we put on the new self and identity He offers. (Colossians 3:1-17) We engage in biblical community. (John 13:34-35)

How do you see yourself growing in God’s Word? (John 15:7) What resources might help?

How do you see yourself regularly participating in corporate worship? (Hebrews 10:25)

How do you see yourself surrendering any areas of your life that are not yet surrendered to God’s will, including any sexual activity outside of monogamous heterosexual marriage, (Genesis 2:24-25, Matthew 19:4-6, Ephesians 5:21-33) addictions to unhealthy substances or habits, gossip, unforgiveness, or unethical money handling? (Colossians 3:1-17) What resources might help?

How do you see yourself building supportive friendships with other believers? (1 Peter 1:22) What resources might help?

Do you know what your Spiritual Gifts are? (1 Corinthians 12:7-31, Romans 12:6-8, Ephesians 4:11-12, 1 Peter 4:10-11) How do you see yourself using your gifts and talents in service? What resources might help?
