Why Can't We All Just Vote for Jesus?
A biblical introduction to a touchy subject.
Where is it Written?
Read Romans 13:1-7, 1 Timothy 2:1-2, Matthew 22:17-21, 1 Peter 2:11-17, Titus 3:1, and Jeremiah 29:7. What do these passages teach us about the role of human governments and Christians’ responsibilities to them?
Read Acts 5:29, Philippians 3:20, Hebrews 11:13-16 and Matthew 28:18. What do these passages teach us about Christians’ allegiance in relation to human governments?
Read Revelation 21:1-4, 22:1-5. What do these passages tell us about how God will govern the new heaven and the new earth? List the ways this is different from today’s human governments.
How Goes Your Walk?
What were some of the political values you grew up with?
How have your political values changed over the years?
How have you experienced the effects of political division in your life?
One of the significant differences between Republicans and Democrats is the emphasis each places on the role of the private sector (individual freedom) vs. the role of the public sector (corporate responsibility) in addressing various issues. For the following Biblical issues, discuss the roles that either the private or public sectors (or both) may play in addressing the issue.
Add other Biblical issues to the list if desired.
How does your relationship with Jesus change how you engage in political discourse or debate?
How do you hope to improve the tone of political discourse or debate?
